We all know where hemp comes from, so why do fish love it? This remains a mystery, all we know is it works time after time in mostly all conditions. So how do you prepare RAW hempseed?
Here is a guide for preparing raw hempseed.. Hope this helps.....

How to Prepare Hempseed for Fishing
Hempseed is one of the most universally successful coarse fishing baits, accounting for many specimen Carp, Barbel, Tench, Chub and Roach. However, before it can be used it must be carefully prepared, so as not to harm the fish when eaten.

Steps

  1. Uncooked hempseed can be purchased from all leading fishing tackle shops and pet stores.
  2. Using a large saucepan, add one large cup of uncooked hempseed to four cups of water.
  3. Take care not to overfill the pan. Hempseed floats in its uncooked state and is prone to boiling over.
  4. Add a small teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to the pan. This will turn the hempseed a dark black colour, making it easier to see when the seeds are cooked correctly.
  5. Bring the pan to the boil.
  6. Continue boiling the hempseed for thirty minutes.
  7. When cooked correctly the seeds will split open, exposing a small white shoot.
  8. Remove from the heat and pour the contents into a strainer.
  9. Run the hempseed under cold water for two minutes to stop any further cooking.
  10. Bag up the hempseed and freeze until your next fishing trip.

Tips

  • Never use the wife's best saucepan and remember to open a window. Hempseed has a very pungent odour during the cooking process.
  • Do not pour away the water when finished. Instead bottle it and take it to the waterside for adding to groundbait, to give it an extra attraction to the fish.
