How to make maggots float!

Floating maggots are an extremely effective bait, especially in the warmer months which are fast approaching!!! They can be fished on the surface to take surface feeding fish like carp, dace, bleak, roach and chub etc.

For the best results be sure the bait is fresh and not more than three days old!
Here's how to do it....

1. Put roughly 6mm of water into a bait pot making sure it just covers the bottom. carbonated drinks such as cola can also be used instead of water. I think this gives the maggots a sweeter taste which fish love!!

2. Add a hand full of maggots. then put the lid on so they can't crawl out!
I find cutting a portion of the centre out of an old bait lid is a great way to keep them in the container,  whilst also making it easier to grab some!
Don't worry, when they crawl to the open lip, they just fall straight back in lol!

3. I usually leave them to soak for 20 minutes in water,  or 10 minutes in carbonated drinks e.g. cola as the maggots absorb the gas from the drink quicker than they do water!!
That's it! Easy to prepare and very effective. give it a go, you will be surprised!
